Strange Flash From Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Plant

UPDATE:

This is a Radiation Warning

Hi folks,

Thought I should give you an heads-up of what is coming. Some of you might already know there was a bright flash at the Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Plant Monday night 2011.9.5. This flash seems to have come from the Centralized Radiation Waste Treatment Facility (or maybe Common Spent Fuel Storage Facility).

Either way this flash have been up to debate now for a while and some people claim it's just some worker arc welding. And even some say Aurora Borealis. I can tell you right now that people that state that have never seen Aurora Borealis / Northern Lights or done welding. The area around the plant is evacuated so there is no chance of some ordinary people having a party.

What does happen really? Well reports of burning radioactive waste on site have come out. There have been steam and smoke coming up. Groundwater could be in contact with the Corium making steam but also hydrogen and oxygen. Hydrogen burns by itself if ignited and mixed with oxygen it will explode if ignited.

There are a number of theories here but something is going on. With the Fukushima radiation being picked up all over the world now. This flash could very well mean that a cloud of highly radioactive materials are now moving accross the Pacific Ocean. I have been expecting radiation to take 1 week to reach the US and 2 weeks to Europe. But I read a comment that I would like to share with you and it is of great importance. Topic is the Jetstream.

This is two comments from enenews that you really should read and take to heart.

*******
How long it takes for us to get get depends on whether the residue from the explosion is dispersed high enough to get into the trade winds. Then it only takes two to three days to reach us. After the second explosion in March, (reactor 3) two and a half days later, my son went jogging outside without a shirt and came back confused why his skin was bright red except where his shorts were. The redness didn’t go away for a couple of days, and he had shortness of breathe. This is a kid that can run miles normally with no problems.
**********

Here is a response:

******

Good point about the speed of the trade winds (jetstream prevailing towards North America)…I saw some post with a link here yesterday where they metioned a speed of 50 miles per hour for the March reactor explosion to reach North America. That is baloney. Much faster

Your account with your son validates my own experience. I awoke with a bad bloody nose at 6 AM March 16 in Texas…distance 6215 miles from Fukushima Daiichi. About 48 hours after the blast.

The explosion at Reactor 3 occurred at 11:15 JST on March 14, 2011. Texas time is 14 hours behind so it was in the Sunday evening of March 13 Texas time when Reactor 3 blew up. The supersonic speed of the blast sent massive radiation into the jetstream altitude (30,000 feet).

Storm surf data from that week is here:

https://www.stormsurf.com/page2/forecast/forecast/031511.html
Quote: “On Tuesday (3/15) the jetstream continued flowing flat from Japan over the dateline and into the US West Coast near Cape Mendocino solid with 190 kt winds over Japan and 160 kts winds carving out a bit of a trough off California providing decent support for gale development there…”

SP: 190 knots equals: 218 MPH
160 knots equals: 184 MPH

Even if the jetstream dipped down to 150 miles per hour that means it was a little over 41 hours when the front edge arrived in central United States in the late night hours of March 15.

The front edge of this massive toxic cloud arrived in Canada and the west coast earlier. Tacoma, Washington is 4654 miles from Fukushima and the MOX fuel cloud reached there within 31 hours or about late morning of Tuesday, March 15. Check all your first reports of nosebleeds and other medical distresses from those time frames.

I also do not believe the recent steam/hydrogen explosion theory advanced recently despite the wow factor of their reactor lids graphics. It was a nuclear blast in speed and if you have seen the simulations comparing it side by side with a nuclear bomb mushroom then there should be little doubt. Tepco probably has the isotopes data to prove this nuclear explosion, but their credibility and incompetence makes their data and records always suspect.

***********************************

So there you have it people. It would only take a few days for the radiation to reach you. If it rains I would stay indoors and keep the children from playing outside. Don't go and eat berries without washing first. And don't forget to take you're Iodine. Be wise, be safe!

Intense Fire and Smoke at Fukushima Reactors

☢ Fire and Smoke at Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power Plant Aug. 6 2011 ☢ UPDATE ☢

First off I would like to thank all of you who write on the chat and share links. I appreciate that.

After the 6.8 earthquake hit Japan this Friday the Fukushima Nuclear Plant have been quiet. With quiet I mean there were no signs of the flashes of light along with fire and smoke afterwards at nighttime. So I, like most of you that have been watching the plant came to the conclusion that TEPCO now halted the burning of radioactive materials on site. It was only a matter of time before they would start back up again.

Well it didn't last long until they started back up. And they did it big time. There have been some very intense fires and lights going off at the reactor units this night. The fires and lights hasn't been this intense since June I think.

I'm not going to embed any video in this post, I'll post the links to the video. Instead I will show you screenshoots I took of the fire and lights.

I think this last video is interesting to watch. How they stop at morning before they have turned the camera back to color. You can really see how the light fades away and at 4:50 Local Time sharp the camera is no longer in black and white.
2011.08.22 04:00-05:00 / ふくいちライブカメラ (Live Fukushima Nuclear Plant Cam)

This picture show you how fast they stop the work. In about 30 min at morning. The first picture is taken 04:20 Hours and the other at 4:50 Hours when they switched back to color. The light that you clearly can see on the night black and white picture is now very faint.

I also noted a strange series of flashes going on to the left side of the screen at 20:26 Hours.

Don't know about you but I get this urge to cover my ears watching the videos.

6.8 Quake Hit Japan With Epicenter off Fukushima Prefecture

You can read the news below but I want to share something with you first. The earthquake that hit August 19, 2011 14:36 Local Time can be seen here on the live cam of the Fukushima reactor units. Around 1:46 min into the video we see  the whole camera shake from the earthquake. Because the 1 hour video is compressed to 3 min the earthquake goes by quick on cam. However I read a very interesting thing from Sickputer on enenews. He noted that since the earthquake the whole plant was very quiet. And this is true. There have not been any "burning" going on. Or the normal fog / steam coming from the reactors. It's been quiet. Very quite.

To me this confirms some of the things that we have been seeing on the live cam. That TEPCO is indeed burning the radioactive material on site. But because of the earthquake the work with burning the radioactive material have come to a halt. For the moment it's quiet, I guess we only have to wait and see if they continue to burn the nuclear waste.

Published: Friday, Aug. 19, 2011 - 1:00 am

TOKYO - A magnitude-6.8 earthquake jolted north-eastern Japan on Friday and a tsunami warning was issued, the Meteorological Agency said.

The warning was issued for the coastal areas in the prefectures of Fukushima and Miyagi.

No immediate casualties or damage were reported.

The quake occurred at 2:36 pm (0536GMT) with its epicenter off Fukushima prefecture at a depth of 20 kilometers, the agency said.

No immediate new damage was found at the damaged Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power Station, public broadcaster NHK said, citing operator Tokyo Electric Power Company.

The same region was hit by a magnitude-9.0 quake and tsunami on March 11, causing damage to the plant, which has been leaking radioactive material ever since.

Cigar-shaped Object Over Fukushima UPDATE ☢

UPDATE: ☢ The Moon Over Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Plant Aug. 11 2011 ☢

The Cigar-shaped object was back on Aug. 10 2011. I was not quick to write about this because I wanted to have a good look at the footage taken.

Like laste time it first appears a bit before 18:41 and also like last time disappears around the same time 20:43. The Fukushima Live Cam goes black and white like always and this thing moves across the screen. Not exactly the same path as last time because it disappears before the end of the screen. I would say somewhere over reactor unit 4.

We cant rule out any construction work, because TEPCO now plans on building a large Chernobyl like cover over the reactors and the work should be underway.
☢ TEPCO will build a Chernobyl Like Cover Over Reactor Units ☢

We cant either rule out an reflection but I think it's odd that the reflection only appears at that same time a bit before 19:00 and then moves across the screen to go out at 20:40.

If you really look close at the number 1 picture (still in color) you also see that the "reflection" also have a bright dot overhead. I think it's odd also becaue it seems to be very bright.

Strange Fires at Fukushima Plant UPDATE 3 ☢

This is a follow up on the earlier:
☢ Strange Fire at Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power Plant Aug. 6 2011 ☢ UPDATE 2 ☢

I got some good comments about my last post trying to pinpoint the location of the Fukushima Fires going on. Some have put forth a very dark theory about what is happening. They claim that the Centralized Radiation Treatment Facility (area located behind the reactor 4 building) is in use to burn radioactive material on site. Another teory would be that they have built a facility next to reactor 3 to do the same. Burning radioactive waste sounds crazy, but the sad thing about this is that it is in use all over the world. There have been actions against this to little effect. Because it is considered safe when they use $200.000 filters made in Germany to capture the "fallout".

I can't say for sure this is what's going on because the location of the fires are still to me in the same area as the Common Spent Fuel Storage Facility. Looking at the pictures there is a hill in the background. If we take this hill and the tower drawn out in red into reference then to me it looks like the fire is in that area. But it's hard to say for sure, and with news of how radioactive material is indeed being burned around the world. Who knows what they really are up to. One thing is for certain, something is burning at the plant.

Why Fukushima’s “spent” fuel rods will continue to catch fire

By: Kirk James Murphy, M.D. Tuesday March 15, 2011 4:26 pm

Six of the spent fuel rod pools  are (or were) located at the top of six reactor buildings.  One “common pool” is at ground level in a separate building.  Each “reactor top” pool holds up to 3450 fuel rod assemblies.  The common pool holds up to 6291 fuel rod assemblies.  [The common pool has windows on one wall which were almost certainly destroyed by the tsunami.]  Each assembly holds sixty-threefuel rods. This means the Fukushima Daiichi plant may contain over 600,000 spent fuel rods.  The fuel rods once stored atop reactor 3 may no longer be there: one of the several explosions at the Fukushima reactors may have damaged that pool.
Now that we have partial meltdown in the reactor vessels – the part of the reactor where nuclear reactions are supposed to happen – in at least three of the Daiichi palnt’s six reactors, why bother with swimming pools for fuel rods?  Simple. Even after they are no longer usable to drive nuclear fission in the reactor vessels, the “spent” fuel rods are still highly radioactive.  Part of that radioactive energy is emitted as heat.  That’s no surprise: heat from radioactivity is the how the reactor core vessels generate the heat that drives the nuclear plant’s turbines to generate electricity.  The fuel rods don’t know whether they are in the core or in the pools: they keep emitting heat and radioactivity until the radioactive material decays into non-radioactive elements.  That process can take years, which is why spent fuel rods are still dangerous years after they leave the reactor core.
How can we prevent the spent fuel rods from bursting into flame once they’re out of the reactor core? The Fukushima plant – like many other reactors – keeps the rods in water, which absorbs the heat energy.  But the pools – like the water in a teakettle – will boil away unless new water is added.  After the Fukushima plant lost power in Friday’s 9.0 earthquake and got hit by the tsunami, the plant was no longer able to keep the pools topped up.

Geiger Counters - Radiation Detection Meters - Handheld Radiation Detector

When it comes to radiation detection meters you really have a wide field of gadgets to choose from, however radiation detectors are the most common to use. First of all if you need to know what type of radiation you are looking for. There are Alpha, Beta and Gamma radiation detectors. And also there is neutron emission of nuclear radiation. And all these different types of emissions have radiation detectors for a specific type of radiation that you can buy radiation detector for. Some also measure both Alpha and Beta. Others detect Alpha, Beta and Gamma. While others let you measure Beta and Gamma radiation.

What most people have use for though are Dosimeters you can buy a handheld radiation detector pretty cheap that are good addition to a survival kit. There are different kinds that you can use that will detect radiation. There are radiation badges that will tell you when radiation become high. Workers at nuclear power plants use these to inform them of how much radiation they have been exposed to. Now also children in the Fukushima prefecture have each been given a radiation badge so they know if they are exposed to radiation. Some come in the shape of a pen that you can carry in your pocket while other are made more compact so that you can attach them to your keychain. And then you have what is called a personal radiation monitor. These are also called Dosimeters and also normally called Geiger counters. Although not all use the Geiger-Muller Tube for the radiation detection some use a semiconductor instead. These and mostly the older geiger counters seen are pretty big to carry around, so they might not be best suited for a survival situation where you only need to carry the most important things. However if you have land and want to check radiation around the property and drinking water then these are the geiger counters to get because they are very well built units.

These are the once that you normally see people use. They have different units of radiation detection, because when it comes to radiation there are many standards used. some give the measurements in Rads, while other use Sieverts. Some have the maximum radiation value for the measured radioactivity quite low but they will still give you an idea of the amount of radiation in the area. With the units ranging from between background radiation 0.001 mSv/hr all the way up to 10 Sv/h. Normally a dosimeter will measure radiation in micro siverts per hour. If you were to walk into one of the reactor units at the Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Plant you probably would get an error reading from your dosimeter because the radiation levels are so high there.

Note that some places outside the exclusion zone in Fukushima that are too radioactive for people to live in have areas where the radiation levels are above 30 Sv/h. So if you are in a area that have high radiation the radiation detectors would also there go off the scale. However Geiger counters or radiation detectors are still favored as general purpose alpha/beta/gamma portable radiation detectors and radiation detection equipment, due to their low cost and robustness. Most come with an LCD Display that show you the radioactivity in the area. Nowdays you will even get alarm sound and the possibility to connect the device to a computer. Either with a Infrared, Bluetooth or USB connection.

So if you look at the radiation detectors for sale that have this, then these radiation detection meters will allow you to make maps of contaminated areas that show where the radiation is high and low. This also will help you to see which areas are becoming more contaminated over time. With several nuclear reactors in the US and around the world located near fault zones that makes it a danger if a big earthquake would hit the area there is always a good choice to have a radiation dosimeter avaliable. I'm sure many in Fukushima would have been grateful to have dosimeters avaliable at the time of the disaster and I am sure you to would be grateful to have a geiger counter handy when you need one.
