Hi folks,

You are not going to believe what happened today 2011-09-11. I was watching the livecam like I usually do from time to time. Not like I'm glued to the monitor hehe.. Anyhow I put a message on the chat that there seems to be some steam coming out from the "pit" now and didn't think more about it than that.

Steam coming from the reactor units? Yes for you that have not been following what's going on at the Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Plant this might come as a surprise. But I can assure you that there have been burning, explosions, flashes, smoking, lightning.. You name it, going on at the Fukushima plant for months now.

Well the trick that TEPCO have done to keep things quiet is to block out the live feed to the camera. There is a 20 min or so delay in the feed. But the most important thing they have done is that at night they turn of the color. At first glance at the screen someone would not really notice because at night, colors don't show very well.

But there is a switch done at around 19:00 and 04:50 every day when they turn the feed to black and white and then back to color. And it can be clearly seen on many of my post here and if you watch the videos you will also see what else they do to the feed.

But guess what TEPCO did today. They forgot (or someone, probably got fired) to turn the cam to black and white How about that. And to show you how the feed SHOLUD LOOK like at night, here is a slideshow with pictures taken from the webcam during the evening and night.

What TEPCO have done recently is they have put up what appears to be a work light that is pointed to the number 1 reactor unit. I would guess the reason being because they are now building tents for the reactors. And the framework got done today for reactor unit number 1 also.



The funny thing is at 4:00 at night someone apparently found out what was going on with the feed and quickly turned the cam to black and white again.. Breathe a sigh of relief.. Maybe no one noticed .. Ohh I did. SAY CHEESE!

Radiation Expert Possibility That Nuclear Fuel Has Fallen

Hiroaki Koide of the radiation metrology and nuclear safety expert at Kyoto University's Research Reactor Institute now admit that there is a possibility that the nuclear fuel have fallen into the ground at the Fukushima Daiichi Nulcear Power Plant. This story came out earlier today and finally an expert have come out with this.

This story further confirms what we all have been speculating these past months. I have added pictures that also confirm what Hiroaki Koide is saying.


Radiation expert says outcome of nuke crisis hard to predict, warns of further dangers

As a radiation metrology and nuclear safety expert at Kyoto University's Research Reactor Institute, Hiroaki Koide has been critical of how the government and Tokyo Electric Power Co. (TEPCO) have handled the nuclear disaster at the Fukushima No. 1 nuclear plant. Below, he shares what he thinks may happen in the coming weeks, months and years.

The nuclear disaster is ongoing. Immediately after the crisis first began to unfold, I thought that we'd see a definitive outcome within a week. However, with radioactive materials yet to be contained, we've remained in the unsettling state of not knowing how things are going to turn out.

Without accurate information about what's happening inside the reactors, there's a need to consider various scenarios. At present, I believe that there is a possibility that massive amounts of radioactive materials will be released into the environment again.

At the No. 1 reactor, there's a chance that melted fuel has burned through the bottom of the pressure vessel, the containment vessel and the floor of the reactor building, and has sunk into the ground. From there, radioactive materials may be seeping into the ocean and groundwater.

The use of water to cool down the reactors immediately after the crisis first began resulted in 110,000 cubic meters of radiation-tainted water. Some of that water is probably leaking through the cracks in the concrete reactor buildings produced by the March 11 quake. Contaminated water was found flowing through cracks near an intake canal, but I think that's just the tip of the iceberg. I believe that contaminated water is still leaking underground, where we can't see it. Because of this, I believe immediate action must be taken to build underground water barriers that would close off the nuclear power plant to the outside world and prevent radioactive materials from spreading. The important thing is to stop any further diffusion of radioactive materials.

The government and plant operator TEPCO are trumpeting the operation of the circulation cooling system, as if it marks a successful resolution to the disaster. However, radiation continues to leak from the reactors. The longer the circulation cooling system keeps running, the more radioactive waste it will accumulate. It isn't really leading us in the direction we need to go.

It's doubtful that there's even a need to keep pouring water into the No.1 reactor, where nuclear fuel is suspected to have burned through the pressure vessel. Meanwhile, it is necessary to keep cooling the No. 2 and 3 reactors, which are believed to still contain some fuel, but the cooling system itself is unstable. If the fuel were to become overheated again and melt, coming into contact with water and trigger a steam explosion, more radioactive materials will be released.

TEPCO says it is aiming to bring the No. 1, 2 and 3 reactors to cold shutdown by January 2012. Cold shutdown, however, entails bringing the temperature of sound nuclear fuel in pressure vessels below 100 degrees Celsius. It would be one thing to aim for this in April, when the government had yet to confirm that a meltdown had indeed taken place. But what is the point of "aiming for cold shutdown" now, when we know that fuel is no longer sound?

In the days ahead, the storage of enormous quantities of radiation-contaminated waste, including tainted mud resulting from the decontamination process, will become a major problem. Because the responsibility for spreading nuclear materials into the environment lies with TEPCO, it makes sense to bring all the radioactive waste to TEPCO headquarters in Tokyo.

Since that's not possible, the waste should be taken to the grounds of the nuclear power plant. If the plant is not large enough to accommodate all the waste, then a location close to the plant will also have to be designated as a nuclear graveyard. However, no one should take advantage of the chaos and force Fukushima to host interim radioactive waste repositories for spent fuel from other nuclear power plants.

Recovering the melted nuclear fuel is another huge challenge. I can't even imagine how that could be done. When the Three Mile Island accident took place in 1972, the melted nuclear fuel had stayed within the pressure vessel, making defueling possible. With Fukushima, however, there is a possibility that nuclear fuel has fallen into the ground, in which case it will take 10 or 20 years to recover it. We are now head to head with a situation that mankind has never faced before.

Hi folks,

Thought I should give you an heads-up of what is coming. Some of you might already know there was a bright flash at the Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Plant Monday night 2011.9.5. This flash seems to have come from the Centralized Radiation Waste Treatment Facility (or maybe Common Spent Fuel Storage Facility).

Either way this flash have been up to debate now for a while and some people claim it's just some worker arc welding. And even some say Aurora Borealis. I can tell you right now that people that state that have never seen Aurora Borealis / Northern Lights or done welding. The area around the plant is evacuated so there is no chance of some ordinary people having a party.


What does happen really? Well reports of burning radioactive waste on site have come out. There have been steam and smoke coming up. Groundwater could be in contact with the Corium making steam but also hydrogen and oxygen. Hydrogen burns by itself if ignited and mixed with oxygen it will explode if ignited.

There are a number of theories here but something is going on. With the Fukushima radiation being picked up all over the world now. This flash could very well mean that a cloud of highly radioactive materials are now moving accross the Pacific Ocean. I have been expecting radiation to take 1 week to reach the US and 2 weeks to Europe. But I read a comment that I would like to share with you and it is of great importance. Topic is the Jetstream.

How long it takes for us to get get depends on whether the residue from the explosion is dispersed high enough to get into the trade winds. Then it only takes two to three days to reach us. After the second explosion in March, (reactor 3) two and a half days later, my son went jogging outside without a shirt and came back confused why his skin was bright red except where his shorts were. The redness didn’t go away for a couple of days, and he had shortness of breathe. This is a kid that can run miles normally with no problems.

Good point about the speed of the trade winds (jetstream prevailing towards North America)…I saw some post with a link here yesterday where they metioned a speed of 50 miles per hour for the March reactor explosion to reach North America. That is baloney. Much faster

Your account with your son validates my own experience. I awoke with a bad bloody nose at 6 AM March 16 in Texas…distance 6215 miles from Fukushima Daiichi. About 48 hours after the blast.

The explosion at Reactor 3 occurred at 11:15 JST on March 14, 2011. Texas time is 14 hours behind so it was in the Sunday evening of March 13 Texas time when Reactor 3 blew up. The supersonic speed of the blast sent massive radiation into the jetstream altitude (30,000 feet).

Quote: “On Tuesday (3/15) the jetstream continued flowing flat from Japan over the dateline and into the US West Coast near Cape Mendocino solid with 190 kt winds over Japan and 160 kts winds carving out a bit of a trough off California providing decent support for gale development there…”

SP: 190 knots equals: 218 MPH
160 knots equals: 184 MPH

Even if the jetstream dipped down to 150 miles per hour that means it was a little over 41 hours when the front edge arrived in central United States in the late night hours of March 15.

The front edge of this massive toxic cloud arrived in Canada and the west coast earlier. Tacoma, Washington is 4654 miles from Fukushima and the MOX fuel cloud reached there within 31 hours or about late morning of Tuesday, March 15. Check all your first reports of nosebleeds and other medical distresses from those time frames.

I also do not believe the recent steam/hydrogen explosion theory advanced recently despite the wow factor of their reactor lids graphics. It was a nuclear blast in speed and if you have seen the simulations comparing it side by side with a nuclear bomb mushroom then there should be little doubt. Tepco probably has the isotopes data to prove this nuclear explosion, but their credibility and incompetence makes their data and records always suspect.

So there you have it people. It would only take a few days for the radiation to reach you. If it rains I would stay indoors and keep the children from playing outside. Don't go and eat berries without washing first. And don't forget to take you're Iodine. Be wise, be safe!

Spectacular Burning Steam Daiichi Reactor Units

Typhoon Talas has slammed into western Japan, bringing heavy rains and fierce winds. Talas made landfall Saturday on the island of Shikoku and is slowly moving north. The Japan Meteorological Agency has issued a warning that the heavy rains and strong winds could lead to flooding and landslides.

There have been some spectacular lights going on these past hours at the Fukushima Daiichi Reactor Units. The interesting thing is that this time we can see the "fire" starting on the live cam picture slideshow that I made.

I have a theory why we see this now. I could be way off so don't take my word for this. Anyhow there have been reports, really strong once coming in that the Corium (molten reactor core blob) have gone through the containment, and is now found it's way below the reactor units. With the earthquakes making deep cracks all over the nuclear plant, there are those that think that some of this steam we can see is caused by groundwater coming into contact with the Corium. Now this steam along with lights and flashes that have been seen comes and goes. It's interesting to see that these last days there have been a lot of rain coming down from the Typhoon Talas. So I'm going to go out on a limb here and state that because of the Typhoon the groundwater level have either risen or the cracks have been filled with rainwater and in turn water have come into contact with the Corium making the spectacular lights that we see at the plant this time.


And like clockwork TEPCO turns the live cam black and white.

One thing that you might also want to have a look at, is in the beginning of things. The colors go from the shade of gray to more of a blue color. This could be caused by the weather and the light fading, but I have a theory about that as well. And it's called the Cherenkov effect. Pavel Cerenkov discovered this in 1934, while he studied the effects of radioactive substances on liquids. Pavel observed a faint blue glow in water close to a radioactive substance. This blue glow can be seen in fuel pools also. Now I'm NOT sure this is the case but it does look like things are starting to go blue.

Keep in mind that the blue glow in the fuel pool only show a tiny amount of the Cherenkov radiation because the rods are keept stored and under control. Again don't take my word for this, just throwing it out there so to speak.

Would this be why TEPCO turn the live cam feed black and white at night, every night? It's only speculation from my side, but don't you think it's a coincidence. Why would TEPCO continue to do this to the camera feed if it's not something that we are not supposed to see. We know there is a media blackout

Fire and Smoke at Fukushima Plant UPDATE ☢

Following up on my earlier post about the ☢ Strange Lights Flicker at Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power Plant Aug. 6 2011 ☢

There seems to be something going on at the Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power Plant. FrankSnapp on the chat showed a video from Aug. 4 2011 the live cam show some strange things happening.Youtube Video 2011.08.04 19:00-20:00 / ふくいちライブカメラ (Live Fukushima Nuclear Plant Cam)

What's going on there? Did the spent fuel pool dry up and catch fire? Now it seems to me that the people in charge of the live cam turned it to black and white about 55 sec into the video. Probably to keep down the dramatic effects going on. There are clearly massive amounts of smoke / steam coming from the Fukushima reactors or spent fuel storage pool.

And today Aug. 6 2011 19:00 Local time, the exact same TIME 19:00 and the exact same thing happend. The strange lights I saw was the aftermath of the event it seems. We clearly see on the photos that something is burning. And the funny thing is the split second after that last image about 50 sec into the video the live cam goes black and white again. 


What we see after that is only white glowig and flashes going on. But still, something is very wrong at the Fukushima Daiichi Reactors. Or it could also be the Common Spent Fuel Storage Facility if you have a look at the map of the Fukushima Daiichi power plant below and how the camera is angled.

Watch 20 seconds into this video between 01:00-02:00 how a very strong flash occures and then at 50 seconds it's like it's lights out. Everything dies down. From now on it's just the strange flashes you see.

Geiger Counters - Radiation Detection Meters - Handheld Radiation Detector



When it comes to radiation detection meters you really have a wide field of gadgets to choose from, however radiation detectors are the most common to use. First of all if you need to know what type of radiation you are looking for. There are Alpha, Beta and Gamma radiation detectors. And also there is neutron emission of nuclear radiation. And all these different types of emissions have radiation detectors for a specific type of radiation that you can buy radiation detector for. Some also measure both Alpha and Beta. Others detect Alpha, Beta and Gamma. While others let you measure Beta and Gamma radiation.



What most people have use for though are Dosimeters you can buy a handheld radiation detector pretty cheap that are good addition to a survival kit. There are different kinds that you can use that will detect radiation. There are radiation badges that will tell you when radiation become high. Workers at nuclear power plants use these to inform them of how much radiation they have been exposed to. Now also children in the Fukushima prefecture have each been given a radiation badge so they know if they are exposed to radiation. Some come in the shape of a pen that you can carry in your pocket while other are made more compact so that you can attach them to your keychain. And then you have what is called a personal radiation monitor. These are also called Dosimeters and also normally called Geiger counters. Although not all use the Geiger-Muller Tube for the radiation detection some use a semiconductor instead. These and mostly the older geiger counters seen are pretty big to carry around, so they might not be best suited for a survival situation where you only need to carry the most important things. However if you have land and want to check radiation around the property and drinking water then these are the geiger counters to get because they are very well built units.

These are the once that you normally see people use. They have different units of radiation detection, because when it comes to radiation there are many standards used. some give the measurements in Rads, while other use Sieverts. Some have the maximum radiation value for the measured radioactivity quite low but they will still give you an idea of the amount of radiation in the area. With the units ranging from between background radiation 0.001 mSv/hr all the way up to 10 Sv/h. Normally a dosimeter will measure radiation in micro siverts per hour. If you were to walk into one of the reactor units at the Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Plant you probably would get an error reading from your dosimeter because the radiation levels are so high there.

Note that some places outside the exclusion zone in Fukushima that are too radioactive for people to live in have areas where the radiation levels are above 30 Sv/h. So if you are in a area that have high radiation the radiation detectors would also there go off the scale. However Geiger counters or radiation detectors are still favored as general purpose alpha/beta/gamma portable radiation detectors and radiation detection equipment, due to their low cost and robustness. Most come with an LCD Display that show you the radioactivity in the area. Nowdays you will even get alarm sound and the possibility to connect the device to a computer. Either with a Infrared, Bluetooth or USB connection.

So if you look at the radiation detectors for sale that have this, then these radiation detection meters will allow you to make maps of contaminated areas that show where the radiation is high and low. This also will help you to see which areas are becoming more contaminated over time. With several nuclear reactors in the US and around the world located near fault zones that makes it a danger if a big earthquake would hit the area there is always a good choice to have a radiation dosimeter avaliable. I'm sure many in Fukushima would have been grateful to have dosimeters avaliable at the time of the disaster and I am sure you to would be grateful to have a geiger counter handy when you need one.
