☢ Radioactive Chat - Status Update - April 2012 ☢

Hi folks, I know I haven’t been posting much lately, due to a number of reasons. It’s not like I have been hindered from doing so, it’s got more to do with me. When we are dealing with the Fukushima Disaster in question, and like you know this have now gone on for over a year with little to no effort done by the powers in place to try and stop this. For me having to continually write about bad news all the time really takes a toll on the psyche.

Let’s face it, there’s no good news about the Fukushima disaster to write about!! I enjoy writing and blogging and I have been doing this for quite some time now, I can’t say I’m that good at it but it’s always been a thing I like to do. Along came the Fukushima Disaster and things turned ugly, and then even more ugly..

It would be great to be able to write about some good news from time to time, mixing things up a bit but that’s not the case here. When you have been doing this for a while, all the bad starts to wear you down. And you can feel it, in you’re heart. So that’s one of the main reasons I haven’t been able to just sit down and write lately. It gets a bit much. And I don’t like to write just to write something either, I want to put some effort into my posts and I feel that I rather go for quality over quantity.

But I have to take my hat of to the few of you who have the strength to write and blog about this every day, believe me it’s not an easy thing to do and I can’t imagine how some of you do it living in Japan, being so close to the disaster and witnessing the effects. But I guess that’s what gives some of you the strength to do what you do.

So yeah, my posts have been scares but it’s not like the blog is fading away or anything like that. My intention have been from the beginning to try and get the Radioactive Chat going and have the blog somewhat in the background for storing valuable information and informing people. I have about 200 of you give or take lurking around here daily so I know all the links and stuff like the Disaster Alert Map is put to good use. 

Now while I’m at it I’m going to tell you something I read about a while ago in the local newspaper about what’s going on in Germany. (Unfortunately I don’t have the paper now so I don’t have the exact numbers but you can confirm this with a simple google search) Like you already should know most of the Nuclear Power Plants in Japan have been shut down and if I’m not mistaken they only have 2 Nuclear Power Plants running at this time. And I also have not read a single line of news about “blackouts” or disturbances in Japan because of this “lack of power”. So the Fukushima disaster have had a huge effect on the Nuclear movement. Germany have said they will also leave Nuclear Power and this have sparked many debates over how it’s impossible for them to do that, other countries complaining they wont be able to sustain their energy needs if they can’t get energy etc..

Well let me tell you what have been done in Germany already by ordinary people, taking an hour of their time installing solar panels on their homes.. So yeah I know what you think, how much can solar energy help really. Can’t be much right?

Actually the average solar energy production in Germany today is equal that of 16 Nuclear Power Plants.. That’s sixteen Nuclear Power Plants!! But hang on the total solar energy production is much higher, that equals 25 Nuclear Power Plants!! And this is in a country that’s not considered that “warm and sunny” either.

I have no doubt that if every individual would take the time, 1 hour to buy and install solar panels we would not really need Nuclear Power anymore. If we also took time to make use of the wind and the sea we certainly would not need any Nuclear Power at all.

The warranty on a solar panel today is about 25 years, and it will produce power everyday. Put in a 200 or 400W solar panel and you get that every hour you have daylight. Put in enough solar panels and you’re electric meter will start to run backwards and the electric company will PAY YOU for the excess energy you produce!!

So there is some good news to write about for sure, but when it comes to Nuclear.. It’s all bad. Instead of Earth Hour with you turning off you’re lights, go buy some solar panels and have you’re lights on 24/7.

Fukushima Reactor 4 Possibly Collapsing

Japans First Man In Space Robbed Of Everything After Fukushima

Stories like this are just so sad to hear. Toyohiro Akiyama was Japans first man in space back in the 90s. You might think that he would be set for life after that. I mean if you somehow manage to get into space and I'm sure many of us never will accomplish that in our lifetimes, but the few who do you somehow expect them to retire from all that and spend their days with easy living.. RIGHT?

But in reality that's not so anymore for Japans first spaceman Mr. Akiyama. Akiyama was a journalist with Tokyo Broadcasting System Inc., when he flew on the Russian Soyuz spacecraft in 1990. After retiring Akiyama moved to Fukushima. Akiyama have been living in Fukushima for 16 years, he was initially attracted to Fukushima because of the abundant nature in the prefecture. So much so he decided to buy farmland and build his house there.

After the Fukushima Disaster now everything has built over the years have been robbed from him.

Akiyama said:
"I used my retirement pay to buy the farmland and build a house," 


"I feel as though a robber has taken everything from me."

On March 12, the day after the quake and tsunami, Akiyama packed a suitcase and fled his home in Tamura, Fukushima Prefecture, about 32 kilometers from the Fukushima No. 1 plant. As he drove in his truck, the radiation detection device that was hanging from his neck sounded an alarm.

"I bought the device for emergencies, but I never thought the day would come when it would be of help," Akiyama said.

While working for TBS, Akiyama served as chief of the Washington bureau. He stayed aboard the Mir space station in 1990 for one week, giving live reports each day to the nation. Five years later, he took early retirement and moved to the farm along the Abukuma mountain range.

He created a rice farm and also cultivated mushrooms that became his main source of income.

Using his truck on March 12, Akiyama first fled to a hot springs inn in the outskirts of Koriyama, Fukushima Prefecture, about 50 kilometers away. In the course of learning about organic farming, Akiyama made many friends and with their help he subsequently moved to Gunma and Nagano prefectures before settling at a rented house along the mountains in Fujioka, Gunma Prefecture.

Although his home in Tamura is slightly beyond the evacuation zone established by the central government, Akiyama said, "I cannot trust the central government's argument that it is therefore safe."

In October, he returned to see what happened to his home. A friend who lives nearby told him that cesium had been detected in the rice. Akiyama did not know what to say to his friend, who had continued with organic farming in order to produce safe rice, even though the cesium level was below government standards.

Having lost everything, Akiyama now feels that the anger he feels about the Fukushima nuclear accident is what keeps him going.

"The nuclear accident contaminated the expansive forests of Abukuma and spread radioactive materials into the Earth's atmosphere and waters," Akiyama said.

This autumn, he received an offer to teach at the Kyoto University of Art and Design. He plans to move to Kyoto Prefecture next year.

"I want to start from zero again and grow bamboo shoots," he said. "But Wakasa Bay is close by," Akiyama said referring to the region in neighboring Fukui Prefecture where several nuclear facilities, including the Oi and Mihama nuclear power plants, are clustered. "In today's Japan, no matter where you go there is always a nuclear plant nearby."

Akiyama wrote a book, which went on sale from Dec. 7, about his experience evacuating from his Fukushima farm.

Fukushima Plant May Have Emitted Double Radiation Than Estimated

The wrecked Fukushima nuclear plant in Japan may have released more than twice the amount of radiation estimated by the Japanese government, a study by European and U.S.-based scientists said.

Tokyo Electric Power Co.’s Fukushima station, which was wrecked in the March 11 earthquake and tsunami, may have emitted 35,800 terabecquerels of radioactive cesium 137 at the height of the disaster, according to a study in the Atmospheric Chemistry and Physics journal. Japan’s nuclear regulator in June said 15,000 terabecquerels of cesium 137 was discharged.

The amount is about 42 percent of that released at Chernobyl in 1986, the worst civil atomic disaster in history, according to the study. The plant north of Tokyo may have also started releasing radioactive elements before the tsunami arrived about 45 minutes after the magnitude-9 quake struck, contradicting government assessments.

“This early onset of emissions is interesting and may indicate some structural damage to the reactor units during the earthquake,” according to the report.

Japan’s Nuclear and Industrial Safety Agency remains convinced the quake didn’t cause significant damage to the plant, Tadashige Koitabashi, a NISA spokesman, said by phone. He declined to comment on the report.

NISA and Tepco blame the tsunami, which swamped backup generators, causing a loss of cooling and the meltdowns of the three reactors operating at the time of the disaster. Explosions at the plant sent radiation into the atmosphere.

Radiation Effects

Cesium 137 is a source of concern for public health because the radioactive isotope has a half-life of 30 years.

A becquerel represents one radioactive decay per second and involves the release of atomic energy, which can damage human cells and DNA. Prolonged exposure to radiation can cause leukemia and other forms of cancer, according to the World Nuclear Association. A terabecquerel is one million times one million becquerels.

Almost a fifth of the cesium 137 fallout fell on Japan, while the remainder was carried by prevailing winds over the Pacific Ocean, according to the study.

Areas around the Fukushima Dai-Ichi plant, which is still emitting radioactive materials, may be uninhabitable for at least two decades, according to a government estimate in August.

Radiation Release

The study led by Andreas Stohl, an atmospheric scientist at the Norwegian Institute for Air Research, was released on the website of Atmospheric Chemistry and Physics Discussions. The authors used readings from stations around the world to assess the amount of radiation release.

Japanese government officials and the utility known as Tepco haven’t updated figures on radiation from the Fukushima Dai-Ichi station. Tepco said last week the amount of radiation being released has fallen to about 8 million times less than at the height of the disaster.

“We don’t need to add much to what was emitted in the early days,” Yasuo Kosaku, an official in NISA’s nuclear emergency division, said by phone today. Still, “the June estimate may have to be revised.”

The government plans to update the estimate, Goshi Hosono, the minister in charge of responding to the disaster, said in August.

The scientists provided other analysis that questions official assessments.

Reactor 4

The levels of cesium 137 emissions “suddenly dropped” after Tepco started spraying water on the spent fuel pool of the No. 4 reactor, they said. Reactor 4 was idle before the quake and the fuel assemblies in the core had been placed in the spent fuel pool of the unit.

“This indicates that emissions were not only coming from the damaged reactor cores, but also from the spent fuel pool of unit 4,” the report said.

Fukushima also discharged 16.7 million terabecquerels of xenon 133, “ the largest radioactive noble gas release in history not associated with nuclear bomb testing,” the study said.

The government estimated in June 11 million terabecquerels of the radioactive particle was released from the plant.

Xenon 133 has a half life of 5.2 days and is relatively harmless, Tetsuo Ito, the head of Kinki University’s Atomic Energy Research Institute, said by phone.

One car emitted more than 300 times the legal amount of radiation

Cars that were contaminated by radiation during the March nuclear meltdown in Japan are finding their way into the reeling nation's used car market.

Vehicles from the area around the Fukushima Daiichi nuclear plant, which suffered a series of meltdowns after the earthquake and tsunami of March 11, were supposed to be destroyed. But unscrupulous dealers have registered them under new license plates and sold them, The Asahi Shimbun newspaper reported. Unable to export the cars, they're selling them in Japan.

Dealers have traditionally bought used vehicles in Japan and exported them to Russia and Southeast Asia, according to the Telegraph. In June, Russian police turned back a half-dozen used cars from Japan after finding they were contaminated with radioactove isotopes, according to the Interfax news agency. Authorities in South America, Australia and the U.S. have also stepped up inspection of new and used cars coming in from Japan.

Now, with testing also being conducted at Japanese loading docks, dealers are selling the potentially lethal cars on the domestic market.

Nearly 700 cars have been barred from export for exceeding the legal radiation limit of 0.3 microsieverts per hour. One van that was re-registered and sold within Japan was found to emit 110 microsieverts of radiation an hour.

The dealer who bought the contaminated van, which had initially been registered in the town of Iwaki, within the 18-mile exclusion zone, said he sold the vehicle even after knowing it was poisoned because he wanted the money.

"I decontaminated repeatedly after the test and retested the filter of the air conditioner, the wipers and tires, replacing them thoroughly, but the radiation level dropped only to 30 microsieverts per hour," he said. "I decided to sell the vehicle in Japan because I couldn't afford to lose the money."

More than 300.000 children from around Fukushima nuclear plant are having health checkups because of fears of possible thyroid disorders from radiation. The meltdown at Fukushima has added to public unease in Japan about nuclear energy, and some experts say their warnings about the risks were ignored. Our science correspondent David Shukman has been reporting on the nuclear question and has been given rare access to the Hamaoka nuclear power station.

David Shukman: This is the friendly face of nuclear power, bright and reliable, an exhibition to persuade the public that getting electricity this way is safe. But people have also seen a much darker image. Men struggling inside the Fukushima power station for the past six months and opinion is shifting even inside the plant itself.

None of the staff can speak to the media openly but engineer from Fukushima agreed to meet us. To hide his identity we have altered the video, but this is what he said.

Fukushima Engineer: That if people think nuclear power is safe, I’d like them to work with me for a day in the ruble. They’d see a disaster at Fukushima, and if after that they still say it’s safe, they are just ignorant.

David Shukman: Most of Japan’s nuclear power stations like this one at Hamaoka are now shut down. Here the 2000 staff are just keeping things ticking over. And none of the plants will reopen until they are better defended, especially from the sea.

David Shukman: The big shock for the Japanese nuclear industry was that the earthquake was stronger and the tsunami bigger than anyone expected, so they are having to take emergency measures, here they can no longer relay on this huge embankment for protection against the sea. They are going to build an 18 meter wall just the other side of it.

David Shukman: A company video explains how this massive new sea defense will work, and on a rare visit inside we were shown how the power station is already been made more waterproof. It was flooding that caused the catastrophe at Fukushima so here the backup systems are now installed up on the roof. Officials hope the public will be reassured.

Kanji Nishida, Chubu Electric Power: We confirm that tsunamis will not come over our embankment we still think our nuclear power plant is safe enough.

David Shukman: But at the governments earthquake research center they are worried, they have simulated in graphic detail a really huge tsunami that struck Japan more than a thousand years ago, and they say that no one listens.

Japan Earthquake Research Center: According to the director Yukinobu Nakamura we warned that a tsunami could overwhelm Fukushima, but they put of doing anything about it.

An aerial radiation survey of the capital and Kanagawa Prefecture has revealed the northwest tip of Tokyo was tainted by an unusually high amount of fallout, while most other areas showed normal levels, a science ministry official said Friday.

The results, released late Thursday, show that fallout from the Fukushima No. 1 power plant contaminated part of the mountainous Okutama region on Tokyo's western fringe. Radiation readings in the area were the highest of the two prefectures at 100,000 to 300,000 becquerels of radioactive cesium per square meter.

The hourly radiation readings in the area hovered between 0.2 and 0.5 microsievert, but a few spots had higher levels between 0.5 and 1.0 microsieverts, science official Hirotaka Oku said.

Cesium ejected from the Fukushima plant was carried by winds in a southwestern direction through the northern parts of Tochigi and Gunma prefectures before heading south over eastern Gunma and western Saitama to reach Okutama, Oku said.

The geographic features of Okutama, notably its mountains and forests, made the area susceptible to catching radioactive materials, Oku added.

Contaminated areas were also spotted in eastern Tokyo, including Katsushika and Edogawa wards, which gave off hourly readings of between 0.2 and 0.5 microsievert per hour.

The highest levels of cesium-134 and -137 found in eastern Tokyo were between 60,000 and 100,000 becquerels per square meter in Katsushika, Oku said.

Cesium-134 has a half-life of two years and cesium-137 a half-life of 30 years.

The aerial monitoring didn't find much contamination in Kanagawa, however. Tainted areas were found only in some spots in the northwestern part, including in the town of Yamakita, with some areas containing between 60,000 to 100,000 becquerels per square meter at the most.

The monitoring was conducted by a helicopter equipped with a special device to detect gamma rays emitted from radioactive isotopes on the ground. Based on the detected amounts, the ministry used a calculation method to determine radiation levels about 1 meter above the ground.

Gamma rays decay as they travel through the atmosphere, and the ministry used that principle to perform its calculations to determine radiation levels near the ground, Oku said.

According to the science ministry, radioactive materials spewed from the stricken plant were carried away by the wind and landed on the ground mostly via rain, contaminating areas far beyond the Tohoku region.

On receiving the results of the ministry's survey, the Tokyo Metropolitan Government started preparations to conduct special food monitoring on produce from the town of Okutama, official Shinji Tomonaga told The Japan Times on Friday.

"Okutama is known for its production of wasabi. So we will conduct tests on wasabi from Okutama next week," Tomonaga said.He said Okutama is the biggest producer of wasabi in Tokyo. In 2009, 23 out of the 26 tons of wasabi production in Tokyo was from Okutama, he said.

Tokyo also plans to conduct tests on "yamame," a kind of trout that Okutama is also famous for, "yuzu" (citron) and mushrooms.

The metropolitan government will conduct sampling tests on other produce from Okutama as well, but the details haven't been decided, Tomonaga said.

As for Katsushika and Edogawa, it has no plans to conduct additional sampling for now because no radioactive cesium was found in its latest sampling tests in late September on "komatsuna" (mustard plant), which is grown in the area, Tomonaga said. The aerial monitoring was conducted from Sept. 14 to 18 as part of an effort also involving prefectures that started in June.

Watch 24 Hours After Hiroshima Documentary


The documentary 24 Hours After Hiroshima premiered August 17, 2010 on the National Geographic Channel. This documentary is very well done and also give us real stories told by living hibakusha (the survivors and witnesses of the horrors to what the bomb did) The three hibakusha share their personal experiences and this is what makes this documentary stand out.

The Hiroshima Bomb was an experimental weapon and it was the first test. Three Japanese cities had been chosen as potential targets for the attack, the primary is the port city of Hiroshima, located on the delta of the Ōta river. A city of considerable military importance, it houses a communications center and an assembly area for troops. But it's far from just a military target, 80% of the people here are civilians. Since the previous March of 1945 almost every major city in Japan had been fire bombed. Yet Hiroshima remains untouched.

Richard Rhodes Author, The Making Of The Atomic Bomb: The people of the city worried about that, were they being chosen for something especially terrible?

As the Enola Gay reaches Japan, Hiroshimas fate is still not final. It all depends on the weather. One of the requirements of the target is that it has to be visible from the air. Weather planes fly ahead to check the conditions over the three selected cities. As it happens it is a clear morning at Hiroshima. The cities fate is now sealed. 13 year old Shigeko Sasamori can feel the sun burning down on her on this hot cloudless morning. She runs to join schoolmates in their assignment to clear the streets for firebreaks in case of an attack.

Shigeko Sasamori: I look up at the sky, I saw the beautiful silver airplane, and the white long tail. And blue sky, it looks beautiful. And at the same time, I saw something drop.

Shigeko is less than a mile from the Enola Gays target, the distinctive T-Shaped Aioi bridge, running across the river in the center of downtown it can be spotted easily. Even at 3200 feet. 90 seconds before it was released the bombardier sets his sights on the target about 2 miles below, and makes careful last minutes maneuvers. Will they hit the target? And will it explode at the preset altitude of 190 feet over the city?

Jeppson and fellow crew members had done the math and they expect the bomb to detonate at 42 seconds.

The crew of the Enola Gay are not the only ones counting down at 8:15 on August 6, 1945. 8 year old Takashi Tanemori left home at 8 AM  to get to his school. He is looking forward to playing with his friends.

Takashi Tanemori: I was excited this particular morning for "hide and seek" because I was chosen as "it". So I was standing against the window, looking outside.

While Takashi counts, thousands of others are outside on route to work and school. As the lone Enola Gay flies overhead there is little alarm. It looks nothing like the bombing squadron most people fear.

Richard Rhodes: People assumed it was a weather plane and instead of doing what the scientists had assumed would happen which is that they would run into bomb shelters and be safe from the affects from the blast. People came outdoors to look.

Takashi Tanemori: All of a sudden, bang. Flash in the sky, pure white. I saw the bones in my fingers as though I was looking at an X-ray, so intense.

This is the only footage ever taken of this atomic explosion. Scant documentation of an event that changes the course of history. Within moments the mushroom could is ten miles high, it spreads three miles over the city, and it's more than 350.000 inhabitants. On the day of the attack the United States has been in the war for 4 years, and has lost over 100.000 men on the Pacific front alone. Despite loosing over 1 million men the Japanese continue to fight fiercely. Some fear that if the war goes on millions more will be lost on both sides.

Richard Rhodes: They saw the atomic bomb as an potential way of shock them into surrendering.

This radically new bomb reduces the living, breading downtown of Hiroshima to a wasteland. 70000 human beings are dead instantly, another 70000 injured. Mutant Japan - Deformed Tokyo Rats and Pink Grasshopper

Reading Fukushima Diary There was a interview with a Fukushima citizen. It's hard for us looking in to try and understand what these people are going through. Radiation is always on their minds it seems.. And divorce rates are way up now even.

Well the interview was one thing but I would like you to go and read it. However now there are deformed rats and grasshoppers turning up in Tokyo and Chiba. This along with thousands of dead fish in Chigasaki, Kanagwa. The Japanese government talks about lack of oxygen in that case..

Russia Cancel Exhibition at Museum Due To Radiation

Well what do you know, In this story from RT NEWS it says that a exhibition that was due in Gunma, Japan 250 km from Fukushima have been cancelled by the Russians because they fear the radioactive fallout from Fukushima.

Hermitage cancels Japan exhibition over radiation fears

An exhibition of glass from the collection of the State Hermitage which had been due to open in Japan has been cancelled due to radiation.

The Museum of Modern Art in Gunma prefecture was supposed to host the display, “Glass through the eyes of the Russian Imperial Court,” in December this year. However, the location of the museum caused the Russian party to ask for the project to be suspended, Kyodo news agency reports.

Gunma Prefecture, where the museum is located, is less than 250 kilometers away from the notorious Fukushima region. Parts of the area were evacuated due to dangerously high levels of radiation after the Fukushima nuclear power station was damaged by a catastrophic earthquake and tsunami in March 2011.

Gunma had been billed as the crowning destination of the traveling exhibition that was showcased in Sapporo and Tokyo in summer this year. On October 1, Russian Imperial glass will come to the museum of Japan’s Okayama Prefecture.

The display – dedicated to western European and Russian glass-making – features some 327 pieces from the Hermitage collection.

Christopher Busby Radioactive Genocide Japan

Christopher Busby talks to us from Stockholm, Sweden. We get to hear about what he thinks is the sinister and horrifying reason behind why the Japanese are now trucking and burning radioactive materials from Fukushima all over Japan even in the south. He talks about what we can do for the children and what is being done to help them. And also how he has been working on making supplements to block the absorption of the Cesium and the absorption of the Strontium 90 and the Plutonium, Uranium.

The Fukushima Catastrophe is probably the worst nuclear disaster in human history, and certainly worse than Chernobyl. The contamination from Fukushima has gone as far south as Tokyo I have measured it personally in air filters from cars. At least 12 different air filters from cars were sent to me, and some of them from the south of Tokyo and many of them 100 km away from Fukushima and they contain very large amounts of radioactivity in them. High levels Cesium 134 and 137. So we can conclude without any doubt that that area up to 200 km maybe more, away from the catastrophe site has been seriously contaminated with radionuclides. Now if the cars are breathing this material and so are the people and so are the children. And so the children will be contaminated with radioactivity, we have recently heard that the Japanese government have been doing whole body counting. That is to say they have been putting some people inside a monitor to see how much Cesium is inside them. And apparently the levels of Cesium are sufficient for them to say that there is no problem, that there not going to be any increases in ill health. At the same time we hear, I hear reports from Japan from mothers of children who say that they are showing all the signs of contamination with Cesium that were also found by my colleague Professor Yuri Bandazhevsky after Chernobyl in the areas of Belarus that were contaminated similarly with this substance Cesium 137.


Now what it did there was that it went into the hearth muscle and it caused conduction difficulties and destroyed hearth muscles so the children in Belarus was suffering hearth attacks and arrhythmias, that’s when the hearth doesn’t beat properly. And of course later on in life they die young from hearth disease because the hearth cells don’t replicate themselves, the heart cells you get all of you’re hearth cells all at once, you get maybe 1% increase in heart cells per year but over the period of time we are talking about there is going to be no replacement for the cells that were damaged by the Fukushima catastrophe in the children. So we have two different points of view here, we have the point of view of the Japanese government who are ignoring it, who are making these superficial measurements of Cesium in the whole bodies of the children and the people, and they are saying that these concentrations are not sufficient to cause any problems, well of course this is an argument that’s going on and on. It’s like a tennis match, it goes backwards and forwards you know the independent scientists say that there is a problem and the government and the nuclear scientists say it’s no problem.


Of course the real problem is that we have to do something about it, I mean I am a father, I have 7 children I have 11 grandchildren and I cant sit back and just let this go on with us in some sort of silly tennis match, between us and the pro-nuclear scientists who are trying to save the industry from collapse. And all the time the children are getting more and more sick and they are building up this level of radioactive damage which will result in them getting sick and dieing with cancer, hearth disease, a whole range of illnesses that were all discovered after Chernobyl. And it’s not as if this is something new, we know what is going to happen, we absolutely know what is going to happen, we have looked very closely at the health effects of the people who where exposed to these same radionuclides after the Chernobyl accident in the same quantities. Not as many people I have to say which is why Fukushima is a worse disaster.


So I decided we have to do something an I have contacted, I was contacted by some people in Japan, who said what can we do. So instead of just moaning about it we decided to do something, now there are actually something we can do. The first thing that we can do is we can actually measure the radionuclides ourselves because frankly we do not believe what the Japanese government are coming out with, we don’t think that they are right. I mean I have measured more radioactivity in a car air filter than they are measuring in a child and the car breaths air in the same way as a child breaths air so I don’t really believe what they are saying. That’s the first point. So we need to have independent testing. And secondly we need to try and do something about these children who are being contaminated, there are two things that we can do.


The first thing is we can take them away from the areas of contamination and put them somewhere where there is reasonable safe, but that leads us to another problem because what’s happening now what I have been told is that the Japanese government are trucking radioactive material from the Fukushima disaster area where it is contaminated all over Japan. And even as far south as the south of Japan, we are now getting reports of radioactivity, radioactive material taking all the way to the south of Japan to be burnt. Now what possible reason could there be for burning it as far away as that. I tell you the reason, it’s really quite sinister and horrifying, there reason is this. That eventually when these children start die from Leukemia from other cancer from hearth disease from whatever, their parents are going to want to go to court. They are going to want to sue the Japanese government and they are going to want to have to say that in order to do that these, in order to do that these children were contaminated and that’s why they got high levels of cancer. But of course the only way that they can say that they got high levels of cancer is to have a control group in an area that’s not contaminated, for example the south of Japan. So I believe that the project to take this material and to burn it all over Japan is to destroy all of Japan, this to increase the cancer rate in the whole of Japan in so that there will be no control group to which that you can compare these children in the Fukushima area. So that’s that point. So we want to take the children away anyway into some safe area that’s what we want to do.


But the second thing that we can do and this is also quite important is that we can try and block the material we can try and block the absorption of the Cesium and the absorption of the Strontium 90 and the Plutonium and the other substances that are not being measured incidentally. We have to wait a minute now because there is a train passing. I’m sitting on a children’s playground here in Sweden this is in Stockholm, and I decided to talk to you from here from Stockholm where there is a significant amount of radioactivity as well I have to say in the Baltic Sea I measured this myself but that’s another question.


So the second thing that we can do is to try and block the ingress of the radioactivity into the child’s body, now we know that we can do this with Iodine because Iodine goes to they Thyroid gland, we give them stable Iodine at least we are supposed to, it turns out that the Japanese government didn’t, and then it stops the bad Iodine the radioactive Iodine from binding to the same sites. And you can do the same thing with the other radionuclides, for Uranium and Plutonium and Strontium 90 which are the most serious and all of which they are not measuring incidentally and non of which can be measured with a whole body counter because they are Alpha emitters and not Beta emitters. We can block that attachment to the DNA by giving large amounts of Calcium and Magnesium, which binds to the DNA and keeps the Strontium and the Uranium of the DNA.


So that’s one thing that these children can do, they can take a tablet every day of stable Calcium and so we are going to produce tablets which contain stable Calcium which we will supply cheaply at the cost of production to parents of these children so that they can take these tablets and block the ingress of these substances. And we are also working on another tablet, which will block the ingress of Cesium 137. Now in order to do this we have set up an organization in Japan called the Christopher Busby Foundation for the Children of Fukushima and it has a website and it’s all in Japanese and it’s all been done by a colleague of mine who contacted me from Japan called James Grand. In addition to this we are going to purchase a large number of highly sophisticated radiation measuring devices from Europe from suppliers in Europe and suppliers in the Ukraine and we are going to make these devices available to the parents and children to measure the concentration of these substances in the food and also to supermarkets and we will measure the substances ourselves. We will set up a laboratory in Japan so that the people can bring these substances to the laboratory and find out the truth about the concentration of radionuclides in these substances. So these are the things that we want to do and we want you to help us in any that you can. This is an operation to save the children of Fukushima because we do not believe that the Japanese government is doing anything to save the children of Fukushima, they are operating on a principle, which is of the principle of saving not the children of Fukushima but the international nuclear industry, and this is disgraceful. Yoichi Shimatsu: Yes I am, how are you?

Jeff Rense: I'm well, I'm a hell of a lot better than most.

Yoichi Shimatsu: As good as you can be in these times.

Jeff Rense: Yeah indeed, yep, yep, yep. Now there are a lot of things to talk about here. The idea of the black current making it's way across is now a feet to complete, we know that the Canadians tested some fish they said, yes they found some Cesium but it was nothing to worry about, the same old BS. But the bottom line was that they found Cesium now what does that tell us, it tells us that Fukushima is in the fish over here like we said it was.

Yoichi Shimatsu: Across in the food supply, yes it takes, you know 6 months would be a long time, now what happens is that the black current moved up off the Japanese shore it gets hit by the Oyashio (7) which is a parent current or the Liman Current (8) a cold current which will knock it for a loop back and then it goes across the Pacific and it turns into what is called the North Pacific current and it's been a lot of scientific fudging going on really sad to see geophysicist sort of you know, making a lot of non-scientific claims. The thing does not slow down the water do not dissipate in the Pacific it continue a very forcefully over a period of 6 months to the North coast of Canada and United States. Basically around were the border is. And one branch of it splits up to British Columbia goes all the way around the Alaskan Island and loopes back down to were the Russian Kamchatka. The other comes basically straight Southworth across the coast of Washington, Oregon, California and finally it hits Mexico. Part of it then goes down to across Peru, and Chile. And the rest of it goes back across the Pacific to Japan. Now the Japanese government again they are also trying to underestimate they says it's going to take 30 years..

Jeff Rense: BS..

Yoichi Shimatsu: For the radiation to come back to Japan so Japanese government is basically admitting there is radioactive water conversing the Pacific that's going to cycle back to Japan. They say 30 years cause that would be the long loop going down through Peru, South America and looping back up once more. But we are talking about this smaller loop which will bring it back, lets say within a year and a half..

Jeff Rense: I'll bet it might even be less than that. By the way the current notwithstanding. Tuna can make the crossing apparently in 4-5 days and they will eat up fish.

Yoichi Shimatsu: Yeah, yeah, they can speed across and in fact you know off the coast of Fukushima you have these what are called these gigantinc eddies, upweldings they are sort of like climb movements in the water where the cold water of the Liman and Oyashio  mixes with the warm water of the Kuroshio. And this is were all the spawning goes own, so all the larvae are there. And so right now what we are seeing are a lot of squid. And you know, radiation for some reason show up in invertebrates, I think because they don't have like very good like we call reno systems. They don't really have a good way of transporting waste out of their bodies and also in our bodies radiation will accumulate not only in our organes but also in our bones they don't have bones. They die because of that balony died off Japan and right now we are seeing massive amounts of squid washing up on the California shore. These are invertebrates which has basically spawned off the coast of Japan and now being pushed of the coast of California where they end up as Calamarian you know this should be off the menu in the United States.

MotoGP Japan Racing Teams Forbidden From Having Own Food

I enjoy racing in most forms. And these last months I have been in discussions with racing fans about the races that are going to be held in Japan. The MotoGP (Motorcycle racing) Grand Prix of Japan event is going to be held at Motegi in Japan this upcoming weekend. And fans from all over the world are going there. These events usually bring together some 100 000 racing fans from all over the world and it's a big thing.

However with the Fukushima disaster there have been many discussions about how safe it really is to go there. And many riders and teams have also talked about this. Now back when Rossi said this the news that 3 full meltdowns had indeed happened at the reactor units were not out. Atleast and it still is not known to all that there have been full meltdowns were the nuclear fuel have breached the pressure vessels.

Valentino Rossi says : The main reason is that the centre is not under control. Two or three days ago there was another earthquake. If something wrong happens when we are there: this is the biggest fear, the main reason."

Valentino Rossi conceded that various pressures meant the riders were not united over a possible return to Japan, but added that voices within the paddock were also concerned about the event.

"For me its difficult that all the riders are agreed because there is a lot of pressure for the future - with contracts for example - so I think there are some riders that risk more, some less.

"There are a lot of people in the paddock, like mechanics, that are scared to go too. As riders we have a lot of weight on our shoulders - this is the situation.

"With the safety commission we were just nine or 10 riders (in total), so we need to think before we decide."


Well Rossi and the others are right to be concerned. But now IRTA hace restricted the MotoGP teams from using their own personal food supply when coming to Japan!!

IRTA restricts MotoGP teams from taking personal food supply to Japan

International Racing Teams Association (IRTA) has warned the MotoGP teams not to carry any type of food items to Japan.

The teams are conscious about the nuclear radiation at the surroundings of the Twin Ring Motegi circuit.

A disastrous earthquake and tsunami shook Japan earlier in 2011. During the trauma, a nuclear plant, Fukushima was breached and caused threats of nuclear radiation in the country. Though the plant is about 100 kilometres away from Motegi circuit, but the effects were expected to be causing trouble at the venue.

In order to be cautious, many teams requested to take their personal food supply to Japan. However, the IRTA issue an order which read, “We have been asked by Dorna to inform you that you should not pack food with your freight. Discovery by the Japanese Customs could result in delays or penalties imposed by the Japanese authorities.”

Earlier in the season, following the earthquake disaster, many riders decided to boycott the Grand Prix of Japan. The biggest problem was to confirm the intensity of radiations.

Casey Stoner, Jorge Lorenzo, Valentino Rossi and Marco Simoncelli were the likeliest to skip the event. Many other riders also showed their concerns about the safety measures.

The IRTA document further stated as, “We repeat that, in our opinion, transport of food is unnecessary. Government agencies have not issued any general warnings about food consumption. Furthermore the independent report commissioned by Dorna reported on sampling and testing of many types of food at Motegi and the surrounding area and found absolutely no problems.”

After a lot of criticism on the Japanese event, the International Motorcycle Federation (FIM) and Dorna Sports called ARPA agency to do its research. The ARPA took detailed tests and searched for any kind of radioactive problem or its after affects.

After a detailed testing, the French agency declared in a report that Motegi and its surroundings are safe for MotoGP to conduct its event. Finally, the riders have agreed after a report was issued but are still a bit sceptical about it.

Typhoon Roke Make Landfall On Japan's South-West Coast

More than a million people in central Japan have been urged to evacuate as the country braces for the arrival on Wednesday of a powerful typhoon.

Reports said evacuation warnings had been issued to 1.3 million people, including 800,000 in the city of Nagoya, 170 miles (270km) west of Tokyo.

Typhoon Roke is thought to have killed five people even before it makes landfall. Police in Gifu prefecture said a nine-year-old boy and an 84-year-old woman were missing after reportedly falling into a swollen river. The body of a middle-aged man was discovered in a river in Nagoya early on Wednesday morning.

Rolling TV weather forecasts warned that Roke would make landfall on Wednesday, bringing torrential rain and violent winds.

It is expected to cling to Japan's south-west coast before moving north-east over Tokyo and on to the north-east region affected by the 11 March earthquake and tsunami.

Nuclear officials played down fears the typhoon could cause further damage to the Fukushima Daiichi power plant, where workers are battling to cool reactors that melted down in the March disaster.

A spokesman for Tokyo Electric Power, the plant's operator, said cooling systems used to keep the reactors stable would not be endangered by the typhoon. Every possible measure had been taken to prevent leaks of radioactive water, he said.

The meteorological agency warned that rivers in parts of central Japan were overflowing. NHK television showed residents in some areas wading through knee-high water.

"In Aichi the heavy rain is causing some rivers to overflow," an agency official told reporters. "I would like to ask people to exercise caution against potential disasters from torrential rain, strong winds and high waves."

Roke's arrival comes two weeks after typhoon Talas triggered floods and mudslides that left 67 people dead and 26 missing.

The meteorological agency described the eye of Roke as "very strong" and advised residents living in its path to exercise the "greatest possible vigilance".

The approaching typhoon has already caused disruption to factories and power output.

Chubu Electric Power, which supplies the central region, said it had lost 1,870 megawatts of hydropower output but there was no threat of electricity shortages.

More than 200 domestic flights were cancelled and bullet train services were suspended in some areas.

Toyota said it would close 11 factories in central Japan early to ensure the safety of employees. The carmaker said it would make up for lost output on subsequent shifts. Many commuters in Tokyo have been advised to leave work early.

By mid-morning on Wednesday the typhoon was located about 25 miles (40km) off the Kii peninsula in western Japan, generating winds of up to 135mph (216km/h).

It was expected to reach the Tokyo area in the afternoon and the tsunami disaster zone in the evening.

Heavy rain is expected in many areas of Japan's main island of Honshu through to Thursday morning, according to Kyodo news agency.

With the Fukushima disaster still ongoing and not getting any better for months now, activists in Tokyo are enraged with how the government and TEPCO for not dealing with the situation. With reports of children getting nosebleeds, asthma and people feeling numb for no reason the public is more and more starting to doubt the official story that everything is under control.

What most people don't realize is that the number 3 reactor unit that blew was a MOX fuel reactor. Meaning this reactor did not only have Uranium for fuel but also Plutonium.. Weapons-Grade Plutonium that is mixed into the fuel rods. With that we are not only getting high levels of radiation polutning the sea but also the air. With the Jetstream carrying the Weapons-Grade Plutonium over the Pacific Ocean to the US within days. University of California, Berkeley already have detected Plutonium in soil test around California. The name plutonium is derived from the name of the dwarf planet Pluto. Pluto is the Roman god of darkness and the underworld. It's a fitting name for the most evil and deadly element on this planet.

☢ Two Tupolev TU-95 Strategic Bombers From Russia Circle Japan Fukushima Sep 8 2011 ☢

This is an interesting story that came out. It seems that the Russians are doing some radiation measuring of their own. Now they don't say why the had two strategic bombers to circle Japan but it is kinda obvious why they did it. Because they useed the TU-95 Strategic Bombers. The TU-95 was the aircraft used by the Russians (Sovjet) back in the 1950 to drop atomic bombs. The biggest nuclear bomb ever made was also dropped by the Tupolev TU-95. So it's a given that these aircraft would be stuffed with all kinds of measuring equipment.

Japanese defence officials say two Russian bombers took an unusual corse circling around Japan. The defence ministry say two Tupolev TU-95 Bombers from the Russian airforce approached Japanese airspace near the strait of Shima on Tursday morning.

Fighter planes from Japan Air Self-Defense Force (航空自衛隊, Kōkū Jieitai) scrambled to track to bombers. The aircraft leader flew southword over The East China Sea and then south of Okinawas main island afterwards it moved to the Pacific side before scruding along the Japanese archipelago to go northword. The bombers continued flying over the strait of soya while being fueld mid-air. They then headed south on the Japan Sea side before leaving areas near Japan. The defence ministry says the bombers did not violate Japanese airspace, but it was an unusual route for any Russian military aircraft. The Russian airforce have been active around Japan recently. Bombers and spy planes have approached Japanese airspace 5 times since last month.




Russia revealed the flying and says 10 aircraft from Japan's Air Self-Defense Force and South Korea's Air Force tracked them.

The Tupolev TU-95 Strategic Bomber was also the aircraft used when the most powerful thermonuclear device was detonated in October, 30th, 1961 at 11:32 am. The Tsar Bomb was dropped from a bomber TU-95 from 10,5 km height. Destruct of the bomb happened 4500m high above sea level. The explosion yield reached 58 Mt in TNT equivalent.

Geiger Counters - Radiation Detection Meters - Handheld Radiation Detector



When it comes to radiation detection meters you really have a wide field of gadgets to choose from, however radiation detectors are the most common to use. First of all if you need to know what type of radiation you are looking for. There are Alpha, Beta and Gamma radiation detectors. And also there is neutron emission of nuclear radiation. These and mostly the older geiger counters seen are pretty big to carry around, so they might not be best suited for a survival situation where you only need to carry the most important things. However if you have land and want to check radiation around the property and drinking water then these are the geiger counters to get because they are very well built units.

These are the once that you normally see people use. They have different units of radiation detection, because when it comes to radiation there are many standards used. some give the measurements in Rads, while other use Sieverts. Some have the maximum radiation value for the measured radioactivity quite low but they will still give you an idea of the amount of radiation in the area. With the units ranging from between background radiation 0.001 mSv/hr all the way up to 10 Sv/h. Normally a dosimeter will measure radiation in micro siverts per hour. If you were to walk into one of the reactor units at the Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Plant you probably would get an error reading from your dosimeter because the radiation levels are so high there.

Note that some places outside the exclusion zone in Fukushima that are too radioactive for people to live in have areas where the radiation levels are above 30 Sv/h. So if you are in a area that have high radiation the radiation detectors would also there go off the scale. However Geiger counters or radiation detectors are still favored as general purpose alpha/beta/gamma portable radiation detectors and radiation detection equipment, due to their low cost and robustness. Most come with an LCD Display that show you the radioactivity in the area. Nowdays you will even get alarm sound and the possibility to connect the device to a computer. Either with a Infrared, Bluetooth or USB connection.

So if you look at the radiation detectors for sale that have this, then these radiation detection meters will allow you to make maps of contaminated areas that show where the radiation is high and low. This also will help you to see which areas are becoming more contaminated over time. With several nuclear reactors in the US and around the world located near fault zones that makes it a danger if a big earthquake would hit the area there is always a good choice to have a radiation dosimeter avaliable. I'm sure many in Fukushima would have been grateful to have dosimeters avaliable at the time of the disaster and I am sure you to would be grateful to have a geiger counter handy when you need one.
