Norway Transporting Plutonium on Commercial flights

The first one was a horrible movie but snakes do travel on planes from time to time. The more disturbing thing here is that last one however is also true. Did you know that if you're flying in Norway on a commercial flight you could be sitting a few feet away from plutonium?

Not many people know this but people need to know the truth, the following story was given to the Norwegian newspaper Klassekamp.

The radioactive material plutonium is transported out of Norway via Gardermoen Airport on commercial flights with unsuspecting passengers onboard, according to a media report.

Plutonium is considered the most harmful known element, and is highly carcinogenic. The plutonium is used for research in the Halden reactor in Norway, according to the Klassekamp newspaper.

The head of the Institute for Energy Technology at the plant has confirmed the report that the plutonium is shipped out by air through Oslo's main airport.

"It doesn't happen often, the last transit was in 2011, and before it has happened about once every two years. All shipments are made in accordance with the regulations, which allows the use of passenger aircraft. So yes, we carry the passenger aircraft, as long as the airline considers it appropriate," Helge Valdseth told the newspaper.

Citing security concerns, Valdseth was however unwilling to indicate which airlines they use to transport the plutonium, confirming only that the regulations stipulated that a maximum of 15 grammes of fissile material can be carried per air shipment.

The practice is furthermore no problem for the Norwegian Radiation Protection Agency (Statens strålevern - NRPA).

"Transporting plutonium by air is within the rules and is problem-free," said Sverre Hornkjøl, a senior advisor at the agency, to Klassekampen.

Sverre Hornkjøl argued that it is no more dangerous to transport plutonium by air than by road.

"Not if you look at the accident statistics. There are more accidents on the roads than in the air," he observed. NTB/The Local

Fukushima Vs Atom Bombs - Putting Things In Perspective

Hi folks,

I read a comment on enenews talking about the amount of radioactive material stored at the Fukushima nuclear plant and how this compared to the Hiroshima and Nagasaki bombs. I have had this in the back of my mind for quite some time but other events taking place have put me off from doing a post about this. Well now is the time.

Lets start with how much radioactive material is stored at the Fukushima nuclear power plant. Actually it would be more correct to say how much was stored until the explosions at the Fukushima nuclear power plant. Because reports show that Plutonium and spent fuel along with other radioactive material have scattered around the plant and the surrounding area.

The spent nuclear fuel:

Reactor Building 1: 50 tons
Reactor Building 2: 81 tons
Reactor Building 3: 88 tons Uranium / Plutonium (UO2/MOX)
Reactor Building 4: 135 tons
Reactor Building 5: 142 tons
Reactor Building 6: 151 tons
Common Spent Fuel Storage Facility located at ground-level: 1,097 tons Uranium / Plutonium (UO2/MOX)
Dry Storage also located at ground-level: 70 tons

The reactor unit cores contain less than 100 tons of nuclear fuel.

Now lets put things in perspective. Little boy the nuclear bomb dropped on Hiroshima had 150 lbs Uranium-235. While the nuclear bomb dropped on Nagasaki, the Fat Man contained 13.6 lbs Plutonium-239.

Both bombs leveled the cities Hiroshima and Nagasaki and brought great destruction to the Japanese.

However Soviet Union's most powerful 50 megaton Tsar bomba the biggest nuclear bomb ever made weighed 27,000 kilograms (60,000 lb).

The explosion of the Tsar Bomba put out the equivalent of 1,400 times the combined power of the two nuclear explosives used in World War II the bombs that destroyed Hiroshima and Nagasaki. Little Boy (13–18 kilotons) and Fat Man (21 kilotons). Tsar bomba alone had 10 times the combined power of all the explosives used in WWII. And one quarter of the estimated yield of the 1883 eruption of Krakatoa.

But still the 27 tons of radioactive material in the Tsar Bomba is nothing compared to the amount at the Fukushima nuclear power plant. It’s hard to try and imagine but I hope these numbers will give you a little more understanding of the situation.

Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry survey of air radiation at Fukushima. The measuring have been done at 1 meter and 1 centimeter off the ground around Fukushima evacuation zones.

The survey is showing the highest air radiation of 139 microsieverts/hour at 1 meter off the ground at Okuma-machi, 1.5 kilometer southwest of the Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Plant. And 368 microsieverts/hour at 1 centimeter in Futaba-machi that is 4 kilometers west of the nuclear plant.

Pacific Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Fallout Simulation

CEREA Cesium-137 Deposition Across the Pacific Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Fallout Simulation ☢

This is an interesting simulation from France that show atmospheric dispersion of Caesium 137 radionuclides from the Fukushima-Daichii nuclear power plant across the Pacific.

The map don't show Europe but I can tell you that it took about 2 weeks for the fallout to reach northern Europe along with Iceland. And then spread down to middle Europe. The radionuclides follow the streams over Iceland down to England, Norway, Sweden and Finland. So they are the countries that first get the fallout from Fukushima in Europe.

Atmospheric dispersion of radionuclides from the Fukushima-Daichii nuclear power plant, CEREA:

The simulation was performed with a specific version of the numerical atmospheric chemistry and transport model Polyphemus/Polair3D. The parametrisations used for the transport and physical removal of the radionuclides are described in [1,2,3,4]. The magnitude of activity concentration field is uncertain and could be significantly different from the actual one. In particular, the source term remains uncertain. Therefore, these results should be seen as preliminary and they are likely to be revised as new information become available to better constrain the source term and when radionuclides data can be used to evaluate the model simulation results.

First off I would like to thank all of you who write on the chat and share links. I appreciate that.

After the 6.8 earthquake hit Japan this Friday the Fukushima Nuclear Plant have been quiet. With quiet I mean there were no signs of the flashes of light along with fire and smoke afterwards at nighttime. So I, like most of you that have been watching the plant came to the conclusion that TEPCO now halted the burning of radioactive materials on site. It was only a matter of time before they would start back up again.

Well it didn't last long until they started back up. And they did it big time. There have been some very intense fires and lights going off at the reactor units this night. The fires and lights hasn't been this intense since June I think.

I'm not going to embed any video in this post, I'll post the links to the video. Instead I will show you screenshoots I took of the fire and lights.

I think this last video is interesting to watch. How they stop at morning before they have turned the camera back to color. You can really see how the light fades away and at 4:50 Local Time sharp the camera is no longer in black and white.

This picture show you how fast they stop the work. In about 30 min at morning. The first picture is taken 04:20 Hours and the other at 4:50 Hours when they switched back to color. The light that you clearly can see on the night black and white picture is now very faint.

I also noted a strange series of flashes going on to the left side of the screen at 20:26 Hours.




Don't know about you but I get this urge to cover my ears watching the videos.

A man from Tokyo went to Hokkaido for sightseeing.
He had a whole body counter check to see if he’s taken radioactive particles into his body.

The result was “positive”.

The doctor asked him if he went to Fukushima,he replied no.

He normally spent days in Tokyo.

Now it’s pretty rational to think most of the other people are equally dosed.

The doctor added,
There are too little sample of low dose symptoms,so even if you have cancer in the future,
maybe it’s hard to prove it has something to do with Fukushima.

This is how “our” government is going to abandon us.

If a man get 63 000 Bq Caesium 137 from food he would radiate 1 mSv (this only apply to Caesium 137, no other radioactive materials)

Cesium 137 half-life: 30 Years
Cesium 134 half-life: 2 Years

This man however had a total of above 250.000 bq/kg outside the evacuation zone.

Tested
Caesium 137: 129,746 Bq
Caesium 134: 122,676 Bq


He will radiate over 2 mSv with the Caesium 137 and continue to do so for 30 years if he lives. Then the half-life would make the radiation go down to 1 mSv.

The Battle of Chernobyl - Best Documentary about Chernobyl

This documentary of the Chernobyl disaster is a MUST SEE! The Battle of Chernobyl is the best made movie so far. The Battle of Chernobyl contains rare original footage, pictures and good re-enactments. This along with interviews with political leaders, scientists, soldiers, journalist, photographer and several military personnel and real footage of the damaged nuclear reactor.

There are some very good comments made in this movie from the people involved. And this documentary is something you must watch to better understand the extent of the Fukushima disaster. The things the Russians did to prevent a second explosion is something many can't really grasp. The Battle of Chernobyl tells this story very well.

The Battle of Chernobyl tell us many important things about the situation at Fukushima Daiichi. We get to hear from a worker at reactor unit 4 about the beautiful colors going up into the night sky 1000 meters during the reactor explosion. The cover-up and Mikhail Sergeyevich Gorbachev the former Soviet statesman. Also rare footage from the town Pripyat the day after where we get to see the flashes on the camera during filming caused by radiation.


We get to hear from the brave workers called Bio-Robots recieving 1700 rads or 17.000.000 Millisieverts/Hr radiation levels when working on top of the reactor. They could only work for 45 sec at time before the radiation would be to much. Working with 30kg makeshift lead suits. Some had nosebleeds coming down afterwards. They felt like they had been sucked dry by a vampire. When their eyes started to hurt and they started to taste a metallic taste of lead in their mouths they knew that they had reacherd their limit. But they did their job even picking up the 15.000.000 Millisieverts/Hr contaminated concrete blocks with their hands trowing it of the reactors roof. In the end they had reduced the radiation levels with some 30%. Got a $100 bonus and a certificate. The Bio-Robots can't work anymore because the high radiation levels they were exposed to. Many not even in their 50s now are unable to make a living because of this.


The Bio-Robots were used because the radio controlled equipment, looking like something you would send to the moon that should do the job malfunctioned because the extreme radiation affected the electronics. Before this six hundred (600) helicopter pilots were employed to drop lead over the open reactor to help cool it down and put out the fire. All the pilots were exposed to lethal doses of radiation, and “all” six hundred pilots died.  

Not only did the pilots die, but as the lead vaporized with the heat, many people, including children in the city, inhaled high doses of lead. Since there was concern that the meltdown would contaminate the water table below, 2,500 miners were dispatched to manually dig below the plant to make way to encase the reactor core.  Half of those miners died, and many others became very ill with radiation sickness.

The work done and the cost of 18 Billion Dollars in todays money was important not only to limit the radioactive material from spreading around the world but also to prevent a second nuclear explosion. An explosion with the potential of rendering all of Europe uninhabitable. Some would say that the lead dropped in the reactor to try and cool it down were the wrong thing to do. But with the severity of the disaster it was the only right thing to do.

In all, it was said that 500,000 people (other accounts claim 600,000 people) were dispatched to the Chernobyl plant to contain the reactor, half of whom have died since then as a result of radiation exposure and today about 200,000 are on permanent disability due to sicknesses from their radiation exposure.

Again this is a must watch for anyone. Really well done documentary about the Chernobyl disaster. And I really hope you take what is said to heart. And look at what the Russians did in 1986.

TOKYO (Kyodo) -- The operator of the crippled Fukushima Daiichi nuclear power plant said Tuesday it will begin in earnest on Wednesday work to install a giant covering over the plant's No. 1 reactor, with plans to complete it by the end of next month.
The covering, a tent-like structure made of steel frames and air-tight polyester sheets, is meant to prevent radioactive materials from spreading from the crippled reactor and stop rainwater from entering the reactor building, said Tokyo Electric Power Co.
When completed, the covering will be between 42 and 47 meters long and about 54 meters high. About 60 components are being brought to the seaside plant via the Pacific.
On Wednesday, a steel structure about 6.9 meters high that weighs about 30 tons is expected to be pulled up by a crane and installed at the southeast corner of the No. 1 reactor building.

The building housing the No. 1 reactor and those housing the Nos. 3 and 4 reactors at the plant were badly damaged due to explosions after tsunami caused by a magnitude 9.0 earthquake struck the plant on March 11.
Once the installation is completed at the reactor, Tokyo Electric will consider installing similar coverings for the Nos. 3 and 4 reactors, the operator said.

Cigar-shaped Object Over Fukushima Reactors

And not to forget the post I made earlier today ☢ Fukushima Fires Continue with Lightning and Thunder Aug 8 2011 ☢ You might think that this situation with the Fukushima Nuclear Reactors can't get much more stranger than this right?

Along came a cigar-chaped object..

Watching the live cam at just before 19:00 hours local time, a strange light appears in the sky above the Fukushima Reactors. Before the camera goes black and white (like always) the object appears. It's a very thin Stripe at first, but as the object moves across the screen it gets brighter. It's goes on and off several times. Appears and then disapperars but follows a path across the screen. It first shows up in the middle of the screen at 19:00 and then by 20:40 it has move the the right side where it disappears out of view.

I thought at first maybe this have something to do with the crane or that this is a reflection of some kind. But I can't really tell for sure. Looking at the daytime video we clearly see that the crane arm can't extended to the other side of the screen. This object have not been seen before to my knowledge on the site, and it continues to glow, disappear and appear. To me it looks like it passes between the towers, that would place the cigar-shaped object path over reactor 3 and the Common Spent Fuel Storage Facility. Tell me what you think.

Fukushima Fires Continue with Lightning and Thunder

I did not watch the livecam yesterday of the Fukushima Nuclear Plant that close. But today looking at the videos taken there is a few things that I need to point out.

The last ☢ UPDATE 3 ☢ about the fires going on, I was talking about the possibillity that TEPCO is now burning the radioactive waste on the site causing the fires and smoke that we see on the livecam. Tell me what you think about that. The reason for this is to try and get rid of the more deadly radioactive hotspots on site so that the workers can continue to do what is needed.

There were alot of flashes on the livecam going on yesterday Aug. 8 2011 watching the live cam. So bright that it light up the sky and entire area. At first I thought that this was explosions caused by the fires but then I saw lightning on the webcam so I think that this is what was going on at the time. Now there was one thing that caught my eye. There seems to be another light source coming from the left. It's bright enough to cast a shadow on reactor 1. But then after a while it went out. Have a look at the red circle drawn.


There were alot of smoke coming from the fires this time also. You can't see it on the pictures but it's there on the live cam. I don't know if there were any reported thunderstorm on Aug. 8 2011 in the Fukushima area. So this is my take on the things going on now. I can be totally wrong, but hear me out.

Have you ever seen a erupting volcano? If you have you might have noticed lightning going on in the ash cloud. This is a fenomena not really understood. 

How lightning forms in general is still debated among scientists, and volcanic lightning is even less well understood. What is mostly agreed upon is that the process starts when particles separate, either after a collision or when a larger particle breaks in two. Then some difference in the aerodynamics of these particles causes the positively charged particles to be systematically separated from the negatively charged particles. Lightning is the electrical flow that results when this charge separation becomes too great for air to resist the flow of electricity.


This photo of lightning going on in the volcanic ash cloud from Redoubt Volcano were taken by Bretwood Higman. The camera was mounted under the yurt where he lives in Seldovia, Alaska, and was set to automatically take a 30 second photo every two minutes. Seldovia is 80 miles from the volcano, on the far side of Cook Inlet.

So what if the continuing fires and smoke with radioactive fallout going up into the air at the Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power Plant are causing this same fenomena? Instead of volcanic lightning caused by ash we get nuclear lightning caused by the radioactive dust. I could be way off so I would really appreciate some input. Comment or come and chat with us.

Strange Fire at Fukushima Plant UPDATE 2 ☢

I have done some investigating on the Strange Lights / Fires going on at the Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Reactors. Trying to pinpoint the location at the plant where from the strange lights are coming from.

The pictures I got from the video shows something going on. This was Aug. 6 2011. At about 19:00 Local Time. The exact same event also took place at the exact same time on Aug. 4. 2011. And also today there is a glow coming from the area at night. This is followed by a thick fog at morning hours that make the reactors disappear. And like always like clockwork the image goes black and white, a few seconds after 19:00. But before it did, we can clearly see something what looks like a fire is starting.

The question is where is this. Well I used Google Earth to try and get a better view of the area. Not sure where the live cam is placed but I think the angle is pretty much the same.


The red drawn is where the towers are on the map. And from what is seen on the live cam the circle show us the area from where the fire is coming. I put in some yellow lines where the light would come from and cast a shadow on the reactor buildings. Notice that there is a mountain / hill before the area. This would mean the light from the fire captured by the live cam would not be as bright. And could mean that the fire is much bigger than what is shown.


If we have a look at the map of what buildings are in the area of the fire we see that behind the hill is the Common Spent Fuel Storage Facility. I can only draw the conclusion from the images seen and video of the fires and smoke that there are some serious problems at Fukushima right now. All the fog / mist that comes and goes also would indicate that they are trying to cool the fuel rods and don't have much luck with it.

I also wonder when they are reporting.
"The No. 3 reactor is consuming nearly three times the coolant water that the No. 1 and No. 2 reactors are taking to cool down their fuel rods, as a considerable amount is missing the target."

"The amount of water pumped in daily to maintain the temperatures at these levels is about 216 tons for the No. 3 reactor, as opposed to 84 tons for the No. 2 reactor, which is about the same size and contains roughly the same number of fuel rods, and 91 tons for the No. 1 reactor, which is smaller."

What if this missing water is used to cool the Common Spent Fuel Storage Facility? If so by the looks of it there would be some 100 tons of radioactive steam going up into the air daily.

Fire and Smoke at Fukushima Plant UPDATE ☢

There seems to be something going on at the Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power Plant. FrankSnapp on the chat showed a video from Aug. 4 2011 the live cam show some strange things happening.Youtube Video 2011.08.04 19:00-20:00 / ふくいちライブカメラ (Live Fukushima Nuclear Plant Cam)

What's going on there? Did the spent fuel pool dry up and catch fire? Now it seems to me that the people in charge of the live cam turned it to black and white about 55 sec into the video. Probably to keep down the dramatic effects going on. There are clearly massive amounts of smoke / steam coming from the Fukushima reactors or spent fuel storage pool.

And today Aug. 6 2011 19:00 Local time, the exact same TIME 19:00 and the exact same thing happend. The strange lights I saw was the aftermath of the event it seems. We clearly see on the photos that something is burning. And the funny thing is the split second after that last image about 50 sec into the video the live cam goes black and white again. 


What we see after that is only white glowig and flashes going on. But still, something is very wrong at the Fukushima Daiichi Reactors. Or it could also be the Common Spent Fuel Storage Facility if you have a look at the map of the Fukushima Daiichi power plant below and how the camera is angled.

Fukushima Fallout 1000 Times Higher Than 1963 Peak ☢

(San Francisco) – Dr. Chris Busby, world famous physicist, said tests run at the respected Harwell Radiation Laboratory in England demonstrate the airborne radiation in Japan is 1,000 times higher than radioactive “fallout” at the peak in 1963 of H-Bomb detonations by the nuclear powers. The calculations were on radioactive Cesium 137.
Busby certifies the poisonous, radioactive Japanese air to be at least 300 times worse than the air during the Chernobyl nuclear reactor disaster. Dr Janette Sherman, a highly respected physician and an acknowledged expert in radiation exposure, has estimated the world wide Chernobyl Kill to be at least one million people killed to date. The Chernobyl Disaster occurred April 26, 1986.
Dr. Busby obtained donated car air filters from vehicles in Fukushima and Chiba Prefectures as well as from Tokyo, Japan. Busby stated the radiation per cubic meter of air in Japan was calculated by knowing the size of the engines and the number of miles driven.
The estimates must be considered as conservative or low since the smallest particles go through the car air filters and emerge from the car’s exhaust. The smallest radioactive particles simply go through a human’s skin or go to the bottom of a human’s lungs and stay there. The poison radiates cells within a range extending 20 cells deep in all directions. The dead and dying or mutated cells become cancers and hundreds of other radiation related diseases.
The earth’s few nuclear states detonated a total of 2,045 Atomic and Hydrogen Bombs. During the period before international treaties shut them down, the US detonated more than 1,300 nuclear weapons “tests,” first in Japan at Hiroshima and Nagasaki, next in the South Pacific, then largely in Nevada, USA. The Nevada site is in the South Western US 60 miles, or 96.5 km, from Las Vegas.
The H-Bomb fallout spread first northeastward with the prevailing winds; then went around the world. Yes, the US Department of Energy, DOE, lists the unwarranted Atomic Bomb attack at Hiroshima and Nagasaki, Japan as “Tests”.
In 1963 the Partial Nuclear Test Ban Treaty was passed by the US Senate and most of the countries of the world. The ban extended to above ground atmospheric nuclear detonations only. However, some 25% of the underground detonations broke through to the surface or “vented”.
The on-going world wide nuclear slaughter would all make more sense if the massive war-like Fukushima Daiichi nuclear onslaught was an attack by Aliens from outer space. But no, there is no explanation as simple as that. This “kill them all” effect is a result of decisions of some amongst us, military elites and the richest corporations worldwide.
The lethal radioactive result, or Fukushima Kill, enveloping the world is unmistakable and inevitable, though.

Responsibility, Revenge and Punishment


What can we do to those who are killing us; and, for those no longer breathing, those already killed?
Well, first, we do know our murderers’ names and everything about them is in multiple public records in many countries all over the world. They can’t hide. They are much too egotistical to even try.
Officially they are grouped together as the Tokyo Electric Power Company and the General Electric Company. Strong and powerful as companies, they are weak and fearful of the wrath of the people in countries throughout the world.
Let us first Shun Them in the Old Way. That means to have nothing whatsoever to do with them either in business or private life. To us, they are dead.
Then the world can move to extract vengeance according to the Rule of Law. In the American Wild West of the Old Days it was called “Give them a trial then Hang’em – all legal like.”
Vengeance and Revenge for killing many millions of us with stationary nuclear weapons – leaking atomic reactors – shall be ours. Let’s wipe the Tokyo Electric Power Company and the General Electric officials and policy makers off the face of the Earth, as they manifestly deserve.

Dr. Busby’s Data comparing radiation levels from the radioactive peak of atmospheric nuclear weapon detonations to Chernobyl and Fukushima.
As Measured at Harwell by British Radiation Laboratory and representing the Northern Hemisphere atmospheric level they reported Cesium 137 was 2.4 milliBecquerel per cubic meter. At the peak of the Chernobyl Radiation Disaster and Explosion the atmospheric radiation level was was 10 milliBecquerel per Kg of air, which is about a cubic Meter. A cubic meter of air weighs 1.189 kg.
Car air filters from Fukushima Prefecture, Chiba Prefecture and Tokyo, show the atmospheric level of Cesium 137 in June, 2011 for Cesium 137 was  2.7 Becquerels per cubic meter.
The Fukushima, Japan atmospheric radiation levels are 1000 times higher than at the peak of Atomic and Hydrogen Bomb atmospheric testing in 1963.
Measured Cesium 137 radiation from Chiba Prefecture, about 140 km from Fukushima, was 300 times higher than at the peak of atmospheric testing.
Professor Tatsuhiko Kodama is the head of the Radioisotope Center at the University of Tokyo. On July 27, he appeared as a witness to give testimony to the Committee on Welfare and Labor in Japan’s Lower House in the Diet.

Geiger Counters - Radiation Detection Meters - Handheld Radiation Detector



When it comes to radiation detection meters you really have a wide field of gadgets to choose from, however radiation detectors are the most common to use. First of all if you need to know what type of radiation you are looking for. There are Alpha, Beta and Gamma radiation detectors. And also there is neutron emission of nuclear radiation. And all these different types of emissions have radiation detectors for a specific type of radiation that you can buy radiation detector for. Some also measure both Alpha and Beta. Others detect Alpha, Beta and Gamma. While others let you measure Beta and Gamma radiation.



What most people have use for though are Dosimeters you can buy a handheld radiation detector pretty cheap that are good addition to a survival kit. There are different kinds that you can use that will detect radiation. There are radiation badges that will tell you when radiation become high. Workers at nuclear power plants use these to inform them of how much radiation they have been exposed to. Now also children in the Fukushima prefecture have each been given a radiation badge so they know if they are exposed to radiation. Some come in the shape of a pen that you can carry in your pocket while other are made more compact so that you can attach them to your keychain. And then you have what is called a personal radiation monitor. These are also called Dosimeters and also normally called Geiger counters. Although not all use the Geiger-Muller Tube for the radiation detection some use a semiconductor instead. These and mostly the older geiger counters seen are pretty big to carry around, so they might not be best suited for a survival situation where you only need to carry the most important things. However if you have land and want to check radiation around the property and drinking water then these are the geiger counters to get because they are very well built units.

These are the once that you normally see people use. They have different units of radiation detection, because when it comes to radiation there are many standards used. some give the measurements in Rads, while other use Sieverts. Some have the maximum radiation value for the measured radioactivity quite low but they will still give you an idea of the amount of radiation in the area. With the units ranging from between background radiation 0.001 mSv/hr all the way up to 10 Sv/h. Normally a dosimeter will measure radiation in micro siverts per hour. If you were to walk into one of the reactor units at the Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Plant you probably would get an error reading from your dosimeter because the radiation levels are so high there.

Note that some places outside the exclusion zone in Fukushima that are too radioactive for people to live in have areas where the radiation levels are above 30 Sv/h. So if you are in a area that have high radiation the radiation detectors would also there go off the scale. However Geiger counters or radiation detectors are still favored as general purpose alpha/beta/gamma portable radiation detectors and radiation detection equipment, due to their low cost and robustness. Most come with an LCD Display that show you the radioactivity in the area. Nowdays you will even get alarm sound and the possibility to connect the device to a computer. Either with a Infrared, Bluetooth or USB connection.

So if you look at the radiation detectors for sale that have this, then these radiation detection meters will allow you to make maps of contaminated areas that show where the radiation is high and low. This also will help you to see which areas are becoming more contaminated over time. With several nuclear reactors in the US and around the world located near fault zones that makes it a danger if a big earthquake would hit the area there is always a good choice to have a radiation dosimeter avaliable. I'm sure many in Fukushima would have been grateful to have dosimeters avaliable at the time of the disaster and I am sure you to would be grateful to have a geiger counter handy when you need one.
