Today India started the nuclear reactor on the country's first nuclear submarine.
Indian Prime Minister Manmohan Singh: "It's a big step for the country's defense potential"
With India estimated to have around 100 Nuclear Warheads. So far, the country has only fired them from strategic bombers or in the form of intercontinental missiles. But now India has taken a step towards being able to intervene at sea too.
The "Enemy Butcher" Nuclear Submarine INS Arihant is Indias first nuclear submarine and have now started it's nuclear reactor.
Once INS Arihant is combat ready, India's defense capability increase substantially,

The nuclear reactor still needs to undergo a couple of tests before it's time for the 6,000-ton submarine's maiden voyage. When that is done the crew will go on to test launching K-15 missiles.
Defense analyst Gulshan Luthra: "We need to be one of the regimes that have the technology to stop a nuclear attack. We should get four or five submarines of the same class and two large nuclear-powered aircraft carrier"
The biggest threat to India's security comes from the neighboring country who is also the nuclear nation Pakistan. The countries have on several occasions been fighting with each other, including the disputed Kashmir province in northern India. Neither country has signed the Non-Proliferation Treaty which aims to reduce the number of nuclear weapons in the world.
